Lack of sleep is known to be one of the biggest causes of hunger. Proper sleep is responsible for the regulation of two hormones that are connected with hunger – ghrelin and leptin. Insufficient sleep causes a surge in the level of ghrelin – a hormone that triggers hunger and decrease in the level of leptin – a hormone that cause the feeling of being full. Thus not sleeping properly causes one to crave more food than what the body really needs. So it’s important to aim to get at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep a day.
Starchy carbs have a way of making you want more of them when you eat them. These include donut, cookie, rice, pastries, bread etc. Consuming starchy carbs rapidly increases the sugar level in your blood which tends to plunge soon after. This drop causes a craving for more sugar and carbs. And this process repeats itself like a vicious cycle. So avoiding such foods is the way to prevent this from happening. Choose complex carbs like almonds, pistas, any kind of nut, unpolished rice etc.
